Hair Series Part 3 - Care For Your Hair The Natural Way

Oily Hair :
Jojoba Oil :
Jojoba oil controls overactive sebaceous glands (cells that produces oil), so try this treatment:
Mix 20 drops of Tea Tree oil with 4 teaspoons of Jojoba oil. Apply the mixture to dry, unwashed hair working it in a downwards motion to keep the cuticles flat.Comb through and leave overnight. In the morning , shampoo it out , rinse and condition as usual. Repeat this every 10 days.

Honeydew Melon:
Honeydew melon has an astringent effect :
Mash 1/4 of a melon and run the juice through your hair. Leave for 10 minutes and shampoo out.

Dry Hair:
Banana Mask:
Mash a ripe banana with 1 tablespoon of olive oil and smooth it on your hair from the roots to the ends. Massage into your hair and scalp, wrap your hair in hot towel and leave for 15 minutes.Rinse and shampoo.

Normal Hair:
Avocado Mask :
Mash an avocado, massage it in to your hair and cover your head with a shower cap. Rinse out after 30 minutes , shampoo and condition.

Light Conditioner:
Normal hair can get away with a light conditioner : mix together 3 drops each of neroli, lavender, chamomile and rosemary essential oils.Smooth this blend over clean, towel-dried hair , but avoid the scalp. This penetrates immediately, so there's no need to rinse.

Hair Series Part 2 - Thinning Hair and Hair Loss 1

When you wash your hair,it's natural to lose a few strands ( well up to 100 a day is pretty normal).
First of all make sure you get plenty of the nutrients necessary for hair growth (iron, zinc, vitamin C,E and B, selenium).
Sources of
Iron : Red meat , Beetroot and Sesame seeds(btw very reach in Calcium too, so excellent for your bones girls!)
Vitmain E : Flexseed/Flaxseed oil,Olive oil and Sesame oil

Aromatherapy Homemade Remedies :

  •  Thinning Hair : 6 drops of Rosemary and 4 drops of Frankincense essential oils to 20 ml of unfragranced shampoo and use to wash your hair.
  • Scalp Stimulator : Add 15 drops of Jojoba oil,8 drops of Carrot oil,7 drops of Rosemary essential oil, 7 drops of Lavender oil and 2 drops of Tea Tree oil to 100 ml of your favorite shampoo ( Has to be SLS-free/Sodium Lauryl Sulphate free).Use as a normal shampoo but leave for 1-2 mins before rinsing off. For further stimulation of the scalp, add the oils to your conditioner. Let the conditioner work for 1-2 mins, then rinse.

Ayurvedic Remedy:
  • The Strees Buster; Coconut Relaxing Scalp Massage!
Stress can have an impact on your hair, leading to thinning and sometimes hair loss. Here is an ayurvedic remedy:
  • Take a cotton wool pad and use it to apply a good /generous amount of Coconut oil to your central parting.
  • Continue to part your hair at regular intervals across the front of your head until you reach your ears, rubbing the oil into your scalp as you go.
  • Use your fingertips to manipulate and loosen your scalp.Pay attention to the base of the skull by circling your thumbs along your hairline.
  • Pour some more oil onto the central parting and rub vigorously, then run your fingers through your hair to disperse the oil.
  • Leave the oil on you hair and scalp for a few hours before washing it out.

Hope you'll find this post beneficial and I'll be posting some Islamic/Arabian remedies very soon enshaa Allah , so stay tuned! ;)

Hair Series! Basic Rules Part-1

Basic Rules :

Make sure you :
  •  Get plenty of sleep, exercise and fresh air ( for us Hijabi sisters, avoid tying up your hair while at home and never put on your Hijab while your hair is still damp)
  • Drink at least 8 glasses of water a day.(And your cup(s) of coffee/tea is not included ;) )
  • Include fresh vegetables and fruits in your daily meals ( preferably organic veggies and fruits).
  • Include a good source of omega 3 fatty acids for a healthy scalp. Omega 3 found in oily fish (tuna ) and linseed/flexseed oil. If you prefer to take it as a supplement go for Evening Primrose oil capsules (Always my choice! :)).
